The closer the keyboard is to the user, the more natural the typing postion develops.  There will be less chances of becoming injured since the individual will not have to reach over a portion of the keyboard in order to reach the mouse.  A compact keyboard can still have all the functionality of the standard keybaord (e.g large key caps) but now offer even greater offerings such as hot keys to reduce the numver of keystrokes.
